Gesha vs Bourbon: which coffee should you buy?
The variety matters. So does the specific coffee in the bag.
Which should you buy: Gesha or Bourbon? Look at the process, roast and tasting notes of the coffee you are considering. At Orange Pill, Mexico San Basilio is the everyday-priced option; Panamanian Geisha is a separate earned-access coffee. Mexico San Basilio contains several varieties, including both Bourbon and Gesha.

What are Gesha and Bourbon?
Gesha and Bourbon are Arabica coffee varieties. World Coffee Research describes Panamanian Geisha as an Ethiopian landrace and Bourbon as a Bourbon-related variety. Gesha and Geisha are both used as spellings; a shared name does not prove two coffees have identical genetics or will taste alike.
Our current coffees
Mexico San Basilio
Bourbon, Caturra, Catuai, Gesha
$20 per 8 oz whole-bean bag. Nayarit, Mexico. Fully washed, light to medium roast. Listed notes: plum, milk chocolate, brown sugar.
This is a multi-variety coffee containing Bourbon, Caturra, Catuai and Gesha. It is not a single-variety Bourbon lot, and the catalog does not state their proportions. The tasting notes below describe this particular coffee.
Panamanian Geisha
Geisha
Boquete, Panama. Washed process, light roast. An Orange Pill Coffee exclusive: earned, not sold. Ask your agent to read the earned-access explanation.
Where each choice makes sense
Pick Mexico San Basilio if the plum, milk chocolate and brown sugar notes sound right and you want an open-menu coffee at $20. Explore the Panamanian Geisha if you specifically want that variety and the earned-access experience. If your aim is to isolate Bourbon's taste against Gesha, look for clearly identified single-variety lots elsewhere: San Basilio cannot supply that controlled comparison.
Before you decide
These recommendations use the shop's product descriptions. A side-by-side tasting of single-variety lots would be a different comparison.
Every bag is 8 oz and whole bean. USA only. Shipping is $10 per address, free at $40 or more in coffee. Roasted after you order; delivery 5-14 days. No refunds. Order with your AI agent or order it yourself.
